RAUMLAND “Cuvée Katharina” Brut Champagne Blend NV (Rheinhessen, Germany) $31.95
Not all Sekts are sweet, and the Cuvée Katharina by Raumland is actually very brut Champagne-like. Clean, crisp, with subtle brioche notes, it’s a wonderful stop on the worldwide sparkling wine journey- and a great addition to a holiday celebration.

CHAMPAGNE BOLLINGER Special Cuvée NV (Ay, France) $54.95
The fact that this is one of the two Champagnes James Bond drinks is enough of a reason to love this wine in my book. But it is easy to love it for its pure expression of what Champagne should be. It is a rich, flavorful wine with very fine bubbles and notes of baked bread, pears, roasted apples and a hint of spice. Add great structure and texture plus a long, elegant finish and you will see why Bond loves it so much.

FRANK FAMILY VINEYARDS Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine 2010 (Napa Valley, California) $45
I am a Francophile, and admittedly give partial treatment to French wines. It’s not that I don’t like California sparkling wine, but I simply prefer Champagne. However, when I tasted the Frank Family Vineyards Blanc de Blancs, I was floored. With its sophisticated nose, and rounded palate, I would’ve guessed it were Champagne if it had been a blind tasting. Tasting notes include apple tartine, brioche, banana runts, and green apple peel.

GATINOIS Grand Cru Tradition Brut Champagne NV (Champagne, France) $35
International Wine Cellar describes this grower Champagne as “Juicy, broad and deeply pitched.” While I have absolutely no idea what that means, I can tell you this wine could very well put hair on your chest. Made mostly from Pinot Noir grown in the Grand Cru village of Äy, this bubbly is rich and toasty and yeasty and all those fantastic things that make a celebration wine so memorable. Especially if what you’re celebrating is simply your heartbeat on any given day, as I like to do.

BILLECART SALMON Brut Rose NV (Champagne, France) $73.99
This is one of my favorite Champagnes. I poured it in magnums and a double magnum at the rehearsal dinner before my wedding. I love the balance of the light strawberry notes against the crisp acidity. It also has the perfect level of effervescence and can drink well on its own, while pairing well with a diverse range of food.

WILSON CREEK WINERY Almond Champagne NV (Temecula Valley, CA) $16.99
I love this bubbly, it is a family favorite and we have used it to celebrate weddings, holidays, new homes, you name it! It is amazing with dessert or on its own. Be warned that the almond flavor is a very different flavor profile than your standard sparkling wine. Enjoy, it’s perfect for this time of year!
