When I first read about this Auryevedic treatment I almost burst out laughing.

Not because I doubted that it was beneficial, but because I got tickled imagining the reaction my friends and family would have.  You know, eyes rolling in the back of their heads, hands thrown up in the air, and looks of “now we know you are truly crazy.”  So I decided not to write about this.My thoughts on sharing this have been changed.

I recommended this for someone that had a very serious mouth issue.

They did their own research and decided to do this along with an alkaline diet.  The results have been extraordinary.

Oil Pulling is known as a very powerful, yet virtually harmless, way to cleanse, detoxify and heal the body.   Unrefined sunflower, sesame oil, olive oil or coconut oil are used.  I personally use organic, cold pressed coconut oil because it taste good and is so nutritious. You can get it at your local health food store or buy in bulk at much lower prices at www.mountainroseherbs.com

WARNING: If you are allergic to nuts, coconut oil is a nut oil.

You take a heaping tablespoon of oil and swish in your mouth, pushing through the teeth and reaching all areas of the gums and mouth for 5 – 15 minutes and then spit it out.  The coconut oil  attracts or “pulls” the bacteria, viruses, funghi , parasites and toxins out of the mouth.   You want to do this at least once a day on an empty stomach. I like to do it when I first wake up. If you have specific health issues you want to address then do this 3 times a day, morning, noon and night.

Oil Pulling has been reported to help with the following:

  • Whiter teeth
  • Fresher breath
  • Eczema
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Diabetes
  • Migraine headaches
  • PMS
  • Chronic skin problems
  • Bleeding gums
  • Tooth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Oral infections
  • Cancer

Keep in mind that gum disease and tooth decay are known to contribute to other health issues such as heart disease and arthritis.

Your immune system is constantly fighting the toxins in your mouth which can cause inflammation which in turn speeds up the aging process and can cause all sorts of health issues.

Many people will laugh this treatment off, saying “show me the clinical trials that prove this works.”  If you are of this mind set then I will tell you to skip this.

Most of the time here in America the only thing that gets a “clinical trial” is a man made pharmaceutical drug that if FDA approved will make billions of dollars.

I did find that there was a two-week study at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital in Chennai, India that found that two weeks of oil pulling caused a significant reduction in Streptococcus mutans count, reduced plaque and modified gingival index scores.

If something truly does not get results eventually it will fade away, but this ancient healing technique has been around for 5,000 years. Deepok Chopra, an Indian born, American physician and founding president of the American Association of Ayurvedic Medicene who has taught at Tufts University, Boston University and Harvard University recommends Oil Pulling in his book Perfect Health.

Dr. Bruce Fife, who is considered the foremost expert on coconut oil in the United States, says that “Oil Pulling is one of the most remarkable methods of detoxification and healing I have ever experienced in my career as a naturopathic physician.”  He says that minor skin problems can clear up in a few days, and that more serious, chronic problems may require a few weeks or several months or more depending on lifestyle issues.

There are so many amazing testimonies you can read about on the internet.  My own first hand experience of a family friend’s results have been very exciting.

I personally have made Oil Pulling part of my daily regimen. What an easy way to avoid the bacteria, viruses and other toxins that not only cause tooth decay but cause inflammation which  speeds up aging and  is at the root of most illnesses.

Boy have times changed. Just a few years ago, everyone was erroneously brain washed  into believing that coconut oil was “bad” for you.  Of course now we know that nothing could be further from the truth.
